Mercedes 2013 F1 Car launch
2012 Review
2012 was not as big as what Ross Brawn and the Mercedes F1 team would have liked. After lots of promises and good first half of the season with a pole position at Monaco for Michael Schumacher and a win for Nico Rosberg in China the rest of the season was very difficult and Mercedes started looking towards 2013. Michael Schumacher had some very good races and some very average races. The Mercedes F1 team were not happy with Michael’s overall performance and started to look around to see who they could put along side Nico for the 2013 season. They were able to lure Lewis Hamilton away from Mclaren, something which not a lot of people would have predicted. This meant that the great 7 times world champion Michael Schumacher would step aside and now old karting buddies Nico and Lewis would lead the team towards the 2013 season
2013 Team Preview
The 2013 season will see the 4th car for Ross Brawn and the Mercedes team. The once great Ferrari guru is struggling with the latest set of rules and is unable to find the edge which he once did. By looking at the new 2013 Mercedes the following points can be noted:
- Aerodynamically the car looks horrible ( i.e. the nose, rear end)
- Break ducts are a lot different – positive
Ross Brawn is telling us that the Mercedes is a big step forward however so far the only changes I notice are very small and not really significant. I said that the Red Bull team have the strongest pair on the grid, however now I feel that Mercedes could just beat the Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber line up. However is the car fast enough? We will find out.
2013 prediction
The strongest pair in F1 for 2013 apart from the Red Bull team? Do they have the car to beat the rest? I am not sure however maybe in 2014 with the new rules Mercedes will already be one step ahead
Prediction: Mercedes will not challenge for the 2013 World Championship, however will improve on last years performance
2013 Nico Roseberg Preview
Having his first F1 win after over 100 race starts must have been very satisfying for the young German last year in China. With a new team-mate in 2013 and the rule changes in 2014 I think Nico Roseberg is probably in the best position he could be in right now during his F1 career. 2013 will be a stepping year for 2014, the car will be more competitive however both Nico and Lewis both know that when the new rules come in at the end of 2013 it will be Mercedes who will be more prepared than any other team.
Prediction: Nico Roseberg, Will win a race however not contend for the World Championship in 2013
2013 Lewis Hamilton Preview
Lewis Hamilton made a huge decision to leave McLaren at the end of last year. Did he make a mistake? Why did he move? Was it just because of money? I think the next 12 months will answer all of those questions. He had a lot of bad luck in the last few seasons with McLaren and he should have won a lot more championship that what he did with McLaren. By changing teams he changes everything; team personal, managers even the cook changes. This year will see Lewis Hamilton adjust to his new surroundings, do not expect the best drives of his career however by this time next year we will see if he made a mistake or not!
Prediction: Lewis Hamilton will finish on the podium during 2013 however not content for the 2013 F1 World Championship
