F1 Double Header in Portugal?

Reports are circulating on various sites that there is an agreement in place for the Portimao Circuit to host an F1 double header.

The Portimao Circuit had; as recently as this year, been awarded its grade 1 license. So in theory it is perfectly ready to hold the Grands Prix.

There hasnt been an F1 race held in Portugal since the 1996 grand prix at the Autódromo do Estoril. Where Jacques Villeneuve took the top step in his Williams.

Jacques Villeneuve takes the top step in 1996, with Damon Hill and Michael Schumacher 2and and 3rd respectively.

Liberty media are desperately trying to piece together a season. Seeking out potential new tracks and classic circuits that havent been used for quite some time.

Rumours of Imola ready to confirm have been touted, as well as Mugello and Hockenheim.

An F1 statement released on Friday said there was…

“significant progress with existing and new promoters” and that the series was “particularly encouraged by the interest shown by the new venues”.

It would be welcome news for F1 fans as we have all been missing the thrill of the race and the spectacle of the sport.
