Lando Lands at McLaren

Today saw the announcement that Lando Norris and McLaren Racing will be extending their partnership.

In a statement released by McLaren, it was confirmed that Lando Norris as agreed a multi-year deal to continue to drive for the British based team.

McLaren Racing is pleased to announce it has extended its relationship with Lando Norris, the team’s current Formula 1 driver, in a multi-year agreement.

The 21-year-old from Somerset, UK, has been part of the McLaren family since early 2017, initially joining as Test and Simulator driver, following championship victories in all but one of the single-seater junior formulae he competed in. Lando became McLaren Test and Reserve driver in 2018, taking part in a number of free practice sessions, before being promoted to a full-time race seat for the 2019 season.

Since his Formula 1 racing debut at the Australian Grand Prix in 2019, Lando has emerged as one of the sport’s most talented and popular drivers, impressing with performances resulting in two podium finishes at the Austrian Grand Prix in 2020, and most recently at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix earlier this season.

Lando Norris has only raced for McLaren in Formula 1, he was part of the McLaren Young Driver Program from 2017 and was the teams reserve driver for the 2018 season.

In his first full time drive for McLaren in the 2019 season alongside Carlos Sainz, it was clear why McLaren had faith in the young driver, with some impressive performances, finishing 6th in Bahrain and Austria, helpin the team to secure 4th in the Constructors Table.

2020 saw Norris make another step forward, with a magnificent 3rd place at the Austrian GP, his first in Formula 1. The consistent performances from both Carlos and Lando helpd to secure a best of the rest 3rd place finish for McLaren in 2020.

A driver change for the 2021 season saw the talented Daniel Ricciardo join the team for the Ferrari bound Carlos Sainz, Lando has again stepped up his progress, he has out performed his race winning teammate in 3 of the 4 races this season, which included third place at the Imola Grand Prix.

McLaren and Lando Norris are a good fit for each-other, both are progressing in the right way and most importantly at the same time. The addition of the Mercedes Power Unit and Daniel Ricciardo has only added to the progress of one of the most talented young drivers on the grid.
